The protein encoded by this gene is a kininase that uses zinc as a cofactor. The encoded oligopeptidase cleaves cytosolic peptides, making them unavailable for display on antigen-presenting cells. This protein also cleaves neuropeptides under 20 aa in length and can degrade beta-amyloid precursor protein to amyloidogenic peptides. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2015],

Function:
Catalytic activity:Preferential cleavage of bonds with hydrophobic residues at P1, P2 and P3' and a small residue at P1' in substrates of 5 to 15 residues.,cofactor:Binds 1 zinc ion per subunit.,cofactor:Binds 1 zinc ion.,Function:Involved in the metabolism of neuropeptides under 20 amino acid residues long. Involved in cytoplasmic peptide degradation. Able to degrade the beta-amyloid precursor protein and generate amyloidogenic fragments.,similarity:Belongs to the peptidase M3 family.,subunit:Monomer.,
